I worked as the product owner for the Future of Underwriting business development piece, as well as overseeing the AI use case initiative at Munich Re. Yun-Seong was incredibly invaluable in this exercise, and in selling on multiple months of additional work at Munich Re. His ability to take pretty abstract ideas and thoughts about use cases and turn them into something that genuinely brings them to life shows that he's not only a really great UX developer, but that he actually understands insurance and the pain points of the problem.
I didn't have to spend my time telling him where boxes needed to be, what the flow needed to look like, or how it worked. His real superpower is this: if I describe the problem an underwriter is facing and the solution we're going to offer conceptually, he can turn that into a meaningful design that brings senior executives along on the journey, and that's what allows us to sell things. That's why he's been so heavily involved in the Future of Underwriting work, which is essentially us trying to do the same thing for the whole market.
From total scratch, he built a working Figma demo that can serve as a complete basis for the asset build. That mockup is so convincing, in fact, that while we're waiting for the asset to be built, we're simply going to use the Figma. It's that good.
Overall, great. I love the ownership style. When you say something, he gets it done. He takes total responsibility, and no change is too small or too big. I really want to re-emphasise that he consistently goes above and beyond, and it's been a pleasure to work with him across every metric.
The only development point, and I know this is already being worked on with his team members, is that we need more Yun-Seong. That unique blend of insurance knowledge, technical ability, and storytelling is rare. He needs to continue building out his capability across multiple workstreams, because ultimately his exceptional skill set will become the bottleneck for him to scale. I can already see him performing at the grade above, and that's something to think about as he moves forward.
